Lemons are one of the best all-around foods for the human body. They boast a high amount of vitamin C and both cationic and anionic minerals as well as making the body more alkaline and helping to cleanse. They are rich in raw sugars, helping to keep your strength and energy up through the diet while remaining natural and healthy. According to The Master Cleanser, the lemon acts as a purifier and provides potassium.

Lemons have been proven to be a mild, natural way to purify the body and many colon, liver and Candida cleanses employ the use of lemons. As well, lemon juice aids in loosening up excess mucus in the body. Lemon also helps balance acidity and pH levels in the body so that your immune system can thrive. You see, your body prospers on a delicate balance of acid and alkali. Each part of the human body has a particular acid-alkali balance (called the “pH”) at which it functions best. Most of these levels are a pH of 7; this is the number used by biologists to indicate a neutral ratio of acid to alkali, at which the substance is neither acidic nor basic. There are a few exceptions to this level in your body – most notably the stomach and liver which are acidic and functions best at a pH of 2-3 – but overall our bodies need to stay in the middle. (Now you understand where “all things in moderation” comes from!) The conventional American diet is rich in sugar, grains, and processed foods, all of which affect our pH balance and can leave the body acidic. When this happens, viruses and bacteria are more easily able to take up residence. Your immune system functions at a neutral pH and can’t combat viruses at acidic pH levels. Lemon is just one of the foods that can help us restore balance and bring our pH in a more alkali direction. Despite its acidic nature, the impact it has on the body once ingested is to increase the alkali balance, bringing us into better health and restoring your immune system’s ability to function. So when life gives you lemons, make the Lemonade Diet!
