The lemonade mixture is the most questioned element of the Master Cleanse. What’s in it? How do I make it? Don’t worry, here’s your one-stop guide! Mix the following amounts of each ingredient for one 8 ounce glass of the lemon juice mixture:
2 tbsp. (1 fluid ounce) fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 tbsp. (1 fluid ounce) Grade B maple syrup

Here’s a couple of tips to make your Master Cleanse experience a little tastier!
- If you’re trying to buy all Lemonade Diet recipe ingredients ahead of time, be warned that lemons will go bad if kept over 5 days.
- We recommend drinking the Master Cleanser lemonade either very hot or very cold. You can heat the purified water first and then add the ingredients to drink the lemonade hot, like a tea.
- Do NOT add the cayenne pepper to the Lemonade Cleanse ahead of time. Add this at each serving. Why? The cayenne is hot enough normally – if you let it sit in the mixture all day, it amplifies the spice over time and will be unbearable to drink.
- We encourage you to leave the pulp from your lemon in the juice – it adds to the strength of the lemon flavor. As a bonus, it also packs in more of the nutrients your body will be craving.
- Getting sick of the lemonade recipe? Drink an extra eight-ounce glass of the purified distilled water between servings of Lemonade. It’ll help keep you hydrated, too!

All of the ingredients in the recipe for the Lemonade Diet feature high levels of minerals. Minerals are rarely discussed in normal medicinal circles, but they are key in the body’s proper functioning and the Master cleanse utilizes them. Our bodies need hundreds of different minerals, in minute quantities, but unlike the Master Cleanse, most writere have not publicized them as significant components to our health, most of us don’t have the correct amounts and types in our diets. Mineral deficiencies can result, especially in the summertime, when we lose them through sweat. Muscle soreness, white marks on your fingernails, weight loss or gain, hormone imbalances, metabolism, skin tone, immunity, and a host of other seemingly unrelated symptoms and issues can be attributed to various mineral deficiencies. The massive mineral count alone makes the Master Cleanse beneficial to nearly anyone’s health and wellness.

The next ingredient in our What’s in the recipe? series might be the one that most people are scared of. I actually love Cayenne pepper, and regularly use a dash of it in hot chocolate to add a little kick. Cayenne pepper adds vitamins B and C to the Lemonade Diet. It also aids in your Master Cleanse by cleansing the respiratory system by breaking down mucus, which allows you to breathe better and removes toxins.

The next ingredient that Stanley Burroughs wrote about in The Master Cleanser’s Lemonade Diet recipe is Maple Syrup. Maple syrup is one of the few unprocessed good sugars that provide micro-nutrients as well as calories to the body. This is important as this diet nearly eliminates all calorie intake, so the maple syrup is vital for keeping your energy up. It is high in minerals including zinc and manganese. For the Master Cleanse, Burroughs recommends Grade B because it contains more minerals than the lighter grades of maple syrup.

Lemons are one of the best all-around foods for the human body. They boast a high amount of vitamin C and both cationic and anionic minerals as well as making the body more alkaline and helping to cleanse. They are rich in raw sugars, helping to keep your strength and energy up through the diet while remaining natural and healthy. According to The Master Cleanser, the lemon acts as a purifier and provides potassium.
